ONA's membership committee has organized a series of informal discussions at the ONA conference in New York City to give members the opportunity to brainstorm what activities ONA should be involved in and to help members learn how they can get more involved with ONA.
If you have any questions about these gatherings or are interested in volunteering to help out ONA but can't make the sessions or conference, please contact ONA Membership Chair Jonathan Dube at jdube@journalists.org
Here are the planned sessions:
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP ACTIVITIES DISCUSSION: An overview of the various opportunities to get involved with ONA, including the awards, conference, education, regional events and international committees. We'll also be seeking ideas from members on other activities you'd like to see ONA pursue, and let you know how you can volunteer. Meeting held in Murray Hill A on Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
REGIONAL EVENTS PLANNING LUNCH: In the past year ONA has held more regional events than ever before. They've included drinks nights from New York City to Seattle; "Lunch & Learn" speaker events in Chicago; and a field trip to an online eyetrack study lab in Minnesota. Join ONA's regional planners for lunch to find out what's going on in your areas, suggest new ideas for regional events and find out how you can help take ONA's regional events to the next level. Lunch Saturday from 12 - 1:30 p.m. Look for the sign-up at the conference.
STUDENT AND EDUCATORS BREAKAST: ONA has ambitious plans to help develop a vibrant student and educator community. We're looking for good ideas and eager volunteers to help make this happen. Among the areas we plan to focus on are great student work, mentoring, internships, campus activities and academic research. Join us and we'll update you on ONA student/educators committee activities, seek your ideas and let you know how you can get involved. Gather in the Sutton Ballroom (where breakfast is held) on Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST: Join your colleagues and friends for a thoughtful, engaging and open-ended, informal breakfast discussion about International Digital Journalism on Saturday,
Oct. 29 at 8 a.m. We'll brainstorm how ONA can do more to help international members and talk about ways to grow membership overseas, among other topics. Bring your ideas and any useful information and resources from your newsroom to exchange with some of the leading digital journalists from around the world. Gather in the Sutton Ballroom (where breakfast is held) on Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
