Entry Form: All entries must be submitted via the Web using our online entry form, which will be available through http://www.journalist.org. You will be asked to provide specific URLs for live stories or URLs of archived stories where appropriate.
Please note: The Contest will close on May 31, 2008. There will be no extensions.
Availability: Entries must be available online for one year from date of submission. The competition is for work published between July 1, 2007 and May 31, 2008.
Additional Remarks:: Please carefully read the specific rules for the category you are entering to explain why your entry merits an award according to those rules. Most categories require that you provide specific materials or explanation, and if you do not, the entry may not receive appropriate consideration.
* Submissions for General Excellence-Non English must provide the following information in their entry remarks to qualify:
- URLs to three examples of original online reporting in the last 12 months that showcase the quality of their online journalism. (A brief summary of the news articles or a URL to a translation would help.)
- Three examples of design and navigation innovation and an explanation of how that has helped users.
- Three examples of creative use of online technology in the last 12 months, ranging from new types of digital journalism, to multimedia, to user interactivity.
- A brief explanation of how they incorporate user-generated content and methods of reaching out to and including the audience in their site.
- URLs to any documentary evidence from professional organizations or peers that support the entry, for instance, awards, special funding, or praise from journalism professionals and online innovators.
* If your Web site requires a subscription or registration, you will be asked to provide a username and password that all screeners/judges can use.
Entry Fees: In each category, one fee covers the number of entries specified within that category's rules (please check individual categories carefully).
* Institutions whose Web properties have more than 1,000,000 unique visitors per month*: US $150 per entry.
* Institutions whose Web properties have between 100,000 and 999,999 unique visitors per month*: US $100 per entry.
* Institutions whose Web properties have less than 100,000 unique visitors per month*: US $50 per entry.
* Individuals not representing a media institution: US$25 for ONA members per entry; US$50 for non-members per entry.
* Please note: All entrants will be required to report the number of unique visitors per month as determined by an independent Web rating service. You will be asked to enter the number of unique visitors for the most recent month available, as well as the source of the ratings data, on the entry form.
If you are nominating on behalf of an organization and are an ONA member, you will still need to pay the organization rate.
Payment: You will be able to pay fees online via credit card or send a check/money order/draft in US currency. Checks should be made payable to The Online News Association, and be sent to:
