The content producer is an intensely hands-on player who updates northjersey.com throughout the day, maximizing the potential of the content created by two daily newspapers and some third-party providers.

Daily responsibilities include publishing articles, photos, polls, audio/visual and interactive content to a database-driven Web site on deadline. In addition to the technical tasks, the producer must also write sharp headlines and summaries and perform basic copyediting. The producer keeps fresh content flowing into the site by coordinating with reporters, editors, and others.

The producer streamlines all types of media gathered by reporters in the field and publishes them online in a timely manner. The producer may, at times, be assigned to gather media from the field. The producer also assists in the production of longer-term multimedia projects.

The job is an opportunity to be among the elite group that will recreate northjersey.com, the Web site powered by the journalism created by North Jersey Media Group's two daily newspapers, The Record and the Herald News, and the premier digital provider of local news, information, and entertainment vital to North Jersey and New Jersey.

The ideal candidate has previous experience working in online publishing and a mixture of graphic design, web programming and traditional communications abilities. Candidate should be well versed in pop culture and current events, know Web production tools inside and out, and be comfortable producing in a fast-paced, breaking news environment.

Though part of a team, the producer is an independent, self-reliant worker who is a natural at multitasking, is a problem-solver by nature and is capable of producing original work as well as preparing the work of others for the Web site. The producer is focused on the end-user experience, and is expected to review site usage and analysis regularly.

Qualifications: Command of Flash action script, Photoshop, HTML and JavaScript are musts. Familiarity with CSS, XML, DHTML, Freehand and Illustrator are pluses.

Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in computer science, Web development or graphic design required. Additional experience in communications, especially in traditional or online publishing, is a plus.
