Investigative Reporters and Editors is accepting entries in the 2007 IRE Awards.
The IRE Awards recognize outstanding investigative reporting in print, broadcast and online categories. All entries become a permanent part of the IRE Resource Center's investigative story collection becoming a valuable resource to other journalists who may need help reporting a similar story in the future.
The 15 categories recognized in the IRE Awards are:
· Newspapers: Circulation less than 100,000
· Newspapers: Circulation between 100,000 and 250,000
· Newspapers: Circulation between 250,000 and 500,000
· Newspapers: Circulation more than 500,000 (or wire service entry)
· Newspapers: Local circulation weekly
· Television: Network or syndicated program
· Television: Top 20 market
· Television: Below Top 20 market
· Magazine/Specialty Publication
· Book
· Radio
· Online
SPECIAL CATEGORIES (Any medium, any size circulation or market)
· Tom Renner Award (An IRE Medal for Outstanding Crime Reporting and $500)
· IRE FOI Award (An IRE Medal honoring an individual or organization whose actions further open records or open government)
· Student Work (An IRE Certificate of Recognition and a $250 cash scholarship for Outstanding Investigative Reporting)
Work submitted in the 2007 IRE Awards must have been published or aired between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2007. The postmark deadline for the is Jan. 7, 2008. The entry fee is $50 for members, $110 for nonmembers. There is no entry fee for students who are current members of IRE.
