Metcalf Institute Diversity Fellowships in Environmental Reporting
These 10-month fellowships support five minority journalists to study marine and environmental science with mentorship at the University of Rhode Island for four weeks, including an environmental justice workshop, and to report on the environment for nine months with mentorship at one of five news outlets, which may include: The Providence Journal; Earth and Sky Radio Series and Website; PRI's "The World"; and National Geographic Television; Minnesota Public Radio; The American Prospect; Grist and Chicago Tribune/chicagotribune.com. This fellowship is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation. Diversity Fellowships are available to five racial/ethnic minority journalists from all media with U.S. citizenship. A minimum of one to two years of professional journalism experience is required.
Prize: Prize includes workshop tuition, a $34,000 stipend, and some travel support.
