Alpha Media Group Inc. CEO Kent Brownridge today announced the appointment of Jay Woodruff to Editor in Chief of Maxim.com, the digital companion to Maxim magazine, the largest young men's lifestyle magazine in America. In this role, Woodruff will direct Maxim.com's daily coverage of entertainment, sports, technology, gear and lifestyle and he will work closely with Maxim Editorial Director, James Kaminsky, on the editorial strategy and direction. Current Maxim.com Editor in Chief, Gene Newman, who has been part of the digital division since its inception in 1999, will stay on with the company until July 18 to assist in the transition.

Woodruff was most recently Managing Editor of EW.com (the companion site to Entertainment Weekly), since 2006, where he presided over an extensive editorial and design overhaul. In 2007, Magazine Publishers of America recognized EW.com as Website of the Year. Prior to that he was Assistant Managing Editor at Entertainment Weekly where he directed all of the magazine's movie coverage. Woodruff was also a senior editor at Esquire magazine and was the original Managing Editor of Doubletake magazine. Woodruff has written for publications such as GQ, New York Times, Atlantic Monthly, The Christian Science Monitor, and more.
Gene Newman, who has served as Editor in Chief since 2005, is leaving to pursue new opportunities on the Web. "After all these years it's time for a change-we've taken a powerful print brand and given it an original and vibrant voice in the digital space and I am tremendously proud of our accomplishments."
